rita@delgado1.com

Rita Delgado is the first female and first civilian to serve as a director on the South Santa Clara Valley Memorial District. She was appointed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on January 12, 2021. But she is no stranger to veterans’ issues. Rita is married to Vietnam veteran Jose Delgado, who is also very active in the local veteran community.

As a Gilroy native, Rita graduated from Gilroy High School and then earned her teacher’s assistant certificate from Gavilan College. She retired from her job as an Account Clerk II at Gilroy Unified School District in 1986. Her passion for the education has led her to serve on the Gilroy Unified School District’s Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee and as a member of the California School Employees Association (CSEA). She currently serves as president of CSEA’s Retiree Unit Council.

As a wife of a veteran, she has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6309 Auxiliary for 15 years, including serving as president, past president and treasurer. The Auxiliary works to improve the lives of veterans, service members and their families, and our communities. Its programs are designed to bring needed services, information and assistance to these target groups.

When Rita isn’t volunteering in the community, she enjoys sending time with family and friends.
