Phil Garcia served two years in the United States Army, including one year in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. He received numerous honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star.
As a veteran, he is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6309, where he regularly helps coordinate the weekly bingo nights. Phil is also a member of the American Legion Post 217.
This Gilroy native retired in 2009, after nearly 40 years in the grocery industry. Phil is also a regular volunteer in the community, including pitching in to help out at the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival. He and his wife of 45 years have two sons and five grandchildren. When they aren’t spending time with family they enjoy trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe.
